Seeking Social Media Intern (Unpaid)

Volunteer Position Title: Social Media Intern (Unpaid)

Training and Resources: Upon starting the internship, the volunteer will be familiarized with our current social media sites as well as our social media procedures. The ideal candidate should not need training on how to use basic social media skills like Twitter, Word Press, Facebook, YouTube, Craigslist and Flickr.

Time commitment: 12 to 15 hours per week are expected. The volunteer can do most of the work from home, if desired, however, we do require at least four hours at house build sites, in the office and ReStore each week.

Benefits: The volunteer will learn about Habitat for Humanity’s mission of building simple decent affordable housing. S/he will a.) learn about all areas of Habitat in attaining the affiliates’ goal, b.)engage in a meaningful volunteer experience, c.) gain hands-on, social media experience, and d.) see how social media is a mostly free way to increase awareness, donations and supporters of a non-profit organization.

Position requirements: Intern must: a.) have excellent written and verbal communication skills, b.) have experience using and navigating social media sites, c.) be able to self-motivate, d.) commit to at least four hours on site each week, and e.) be creative.

Job description: We are looking for an intern to update our social media sites on a daily to weekly basis, depending on the site. Position involves talking and posting weekly ReStore showroom pictures on Flickr, posting special merchandise on Craigslist, updating our Facebook pages with postings, videos, photos and current events, writing daily blog entries, and more! The position also involves engaging in meaningful discussion, thus increasing the dedication and mission of building affordable housing. This is a great internship for hands-on experience in marketing a non-profit on the web and increasing awareness, donations and volunteers through a free communications medium.
