Brays 2 Home Build

Brays 2 Home Build Location   53 Vineyard Point Rd, St. Helena Island, SC 29920

The support for this project has been overwhelming with over 101 Brays Island contributors committing to participating.  LowCountry Habitat must raise 60% of the funding for a home before building may start which comes to about $75,000.  Thanks to the generous contributions from Brays Island, this goal was exceeded !  Typically, it takes Habitat one to two years to fully fund a home.  Brays Island came together to fund this home in record time just under two months!  What a phenomenal accomplishment for Brays Island.

Meet the Simmons Family.

The Simmons Family: Denise Simmons and her daughter Jamie.

They will become the homeowners of the Brays 2 Home.

We are excited to announce that this home is fully funded.  We are so grateful for the support of the Brays Island Community.

Additional supporters of this build include Brays Island,  The Beaufort Charities,  Coastal Community Foundation, Hargray Caring Coins and United Way of the Lowcountry.

In kind supporters include Beaufort Surveying, Coastal Appraisal, Eat Stay Play Beaufort, JHN- Residential Building Design, Mussell-Built Structural Engineering, Pepsi and PickleJuice Productions.

With the ease of some of the Governor’s stay at home directives, we are working on a phased  reopening plan, for all LowCountry Habitat operations. Safety protocols, including social distancing, face coverings, sanitizing of tools and equipment and  providing hand washing facilities have been put in place.

Construction activities resumed on Tuesday, May 26 and by June 6th, the walls were raised! Follow our progress on our construction update posts. More to come!

The Brays Island 2 Home located at 53 Vineyard Point Road was dedicated to the Simmons family on Saturday, December 5th at 9am.

An excited crowd of approximately 50 people joined us for the home dedication. Attendees were introduced to the Simmons family and learned the story behind this home as well as Denise’s journey to homeownership. Reverend Abraham Murray from Brick Baptist Church provided the home blessing.  The Bible and Home Keys were presented by Bruce Connell.

This home is possible due to the generosity of the residents of the Brays Island Community, Brays Island and the continued support from our partners. This home marks the beginning of our new relationship working with AMI Kids to volunteer on the construction of our homes. AMI Kids Executive Director, Matthew Kingdom as well as number of those that volunteered were present for the dedication on Saturday.
