Help families build safe, affordable homes and communities

(And maybe get a tax-break too)*

Families partner with Habitat for Humanity to end the cycle of housing instability and become successful homeowners and active members of their communities.

Home construction and revitalization are important parts of Habitat’s mission. With volunteers and homeowners working side-by-side, and local organizations contributing, we can positively impact the quality of life for residents and the community. With your help, Habitat can serve even more people and communities in need of better housing.

How to make your gift

You have a variety of options available for making a gift that will have an impact now. You can:

  • Donate with cash, credit card or check. Click Here to Donate Today

    • A donation of cash is a simple and effective way to create your legacy with Habitat for Humanity. You benefit from a charitable tax deduction while you have an immediate impact on families in need of safe, affordable housing.

  • Give through your donor-advised fund.

    • You can create a grant recommendation from your donor-advised fund to support Habitat for Humanity.

    • Final distribution of contributions remaining in a donor-advised fund is governed by the contract you completed when you created your fund. Please consider naming Habitat as a successor of your account. Or, you can name us as the successor for a portion of the account value, leaving the remaining portion for your heirs.

  • Donate stocks and bonds. Use these easy-to-follow instructions to transfer gifts of stock.

    • You may receive a charitable income tax deduction for the full market value of the stock up to a maximum of 30 percent of your adjusted gross income and avoid paying the capital gains tax on any increase in the value of the stock.

  • Donate real estate.

    • You can donate appreciated real estate, such as a home, vacation property, undeveloped land, farmland, ranch or commercial property. This is an effective way to fund a legacy gift that will assist families with building sustainable, decent homes.

    • You can make this generous gift while still using the property throughout your lifetime, and you may even receive a tax deduction for your gift.

    • Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity continues to look for additional building sites within southern Beaufort and Jasper Counties.

  • Give through your IRA.

    • Here’s how it works:

      • You must be 70 ½ or older.

      • An individual may transfer up to a total of $100,000 per year and a married couple may give up to $200,000.

      • Your gift must be transferred directly from the IRA account to Habitat for Humanity.

      • Your gift is a transfer of funds from your IRA to Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity, so it does not create taxable income for you and is not considered a charitable tax deduction.

      • The transfer of funds counts towards your annual required minimum distribution from your IRA.

      • Can a donor claim a charitable income tax deduction for a QCD gift?

        • No. A donor cannot claim an income tax deduction, but by utilizing the QCD the donor can lower taxable income, which may provide greater income tax savings in comparison to making a cash gift and claiming an income tax deduction. (schwabcharitable.org)

  • Gifts-in-kind

    • In addition to monetary partnerships, “gift-in-kind” contributions of services, materials or supplies, in keeping with Habitat’s construction standards, assist in fulfilling our mission.

    • As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, gifts to Habitat for Humanity are deductible for federal income tax purposes.
