Volunteer Spotlight April 2024: Lisa and Tim Holt

Lisa and Tim Holt are a dynamic duo among the volunteers at Habitat for Humanity of the Lowcountry.

Originally from Massachusetts, they have lived in Beaufort since 2018, coincidentally their first year of volunteering with us. Tim had prior volunteer experience with Essex County Habitat in Massachusetts.

He works on construction twice each week, as well as in the Woodshop, and has been a board member for the past two years and co-chairs the board’s land acquisition committee. Lisa helps manage the Master Gardeners group that landscapes the finished houses in the Beaufort area, has worked construction on several Women Build days and is a key participant on the Upcycled Art Auction committee which helps to plan and execute the annual event.

Tim says he enjoys the rough framing of the houses along with the finer woodworking involved in the inside trim. Lisa likes the way Habitat challenges her to use all kinds of skills. They agree that working with the other volunteers is not only fun but also fulfilling.

“We came to Habitat with the idea we could make a tangible difference in other people’s lives by giving our time and using our skills,” said Tim, who retired from marketing communications. Lisa retired from teaching elementary school after 20 years.

We are certainly glad their search for warmer winters and a bit of family history in the area led Tim and Lisa and their multitude of skills to the Lowcountry!
